I’ve been experimenting with new recipes so look for some new things at the breakfast table.

Today I received a thank you card from guests that were here on Saturday.  What a lift it gave me.  Here is what the card said.

“Carl-  We just wanted to send you a quick note to say how much we enjoyed our first B&B experience.  It was a pleasure meeting you and Zack, staying at your lovely home, 7 enjoying your fantastic cooking!  we hope to visit eland again someday….  Best Rachel and Brandon”

What could make an innkeeper beam more than a note like this?  If you stay at a B&B soon, remember to write in the room journals if they have them or send a note.  You can even do it the electronic way and go to one of the many directories, such as BedandBreakfast.com or ILoveInns.com, that may list the inn you were at and write a review there.  It makes the innkeeper just as happy and it makes the serch engines even happier.

All this wonderful weather was pushed into Stoughton on a great breeze.  Well, maybe you can call it a wind, when it is 20 MPH.  What ever you call it, it begged me to open the windows in the house.  So that is what I did.  This window hasn’t been open in 25 years.  Last Fall I had all the stained glass in the parlor fixed and new frames made.  Now the windows open like they were intended to, and it creates a great cross draft.  This helps with the cooling of the house and gets the stale air, from 5 months of being closed up, moving out real fast.

It also awakened a few critters.  Who says bunnies don’t hibernate in the winter.  I know that I looked for them all over the house during the winter and even captured a few of them.  But today, after having the windows open for less than 24 hours, there they were all over the house.  Little dust bunnies swirling and hiding in new corners and grabbing onto chair legs so they wouldn’t get blown away.  They came out from under the radiators and book cases, I even say one sneaking out from under a video cabinet.  Well I ran and got my O’Cedar Bunnie trap and started to maneuver them into an area where I could box them up and take them outside.  Being a green Inn we practice catch and release.  There are a few critters outside that like these bunnies, especially in the spring.  Nests will be softer because of the extra fir.

So that is the tail of the bunnies at Naeset Roe Inn.  They may have hidden all winter, but they did get caught when they awoke from their hibernation.

As long as you’re thinking about the inn, why not make a spring time reservation at the Inn.  The wildlife in the house has been reduced to Zack and maybe a bunny that didn’t wake up from his hibernation yet.  There are some great spring time recipes I’d like to try out on you also for breakfast.  Look forward to seeing you soon.

It made me think, “Do people actually read this blog and if they do what do they think?”, “What has happened to conversations?”  A friend and shop owner released her first email newsletter this week.  Scentimints, a bath, body and candle scent shop, where I get all my candles from, has a forum in the newsletter where people can make comments.  So I went and made a comment about what a great job she did on the newsletter and what great products she has.  Later when I went into the shop to pick up some things, she made the comment, “Thanks for putting something on the forum, maybe others will realize that it isn’t just for reading.”  The conversation went the way I was thinking earlier, what do people really think, and why don’t they tell us.

We as small business owners can only meet your expectations if we know them.  Don’t be afraid to let someone know what you want or if something isn’t quite right.   Don’t forget to compliment them when something is good also.  I as a B&B owner check light bulbs and drains regularly but if a bulb goes out while you are here let me know so I can replace it, or if a drain is running slow let me know so I can fix it.  It’s the same with this blog.  If you like what you read make a comment at the bottom.  If you would like to hear more about a subject make a comment and I’ll let you know more.  I know that it takes a little longer to write a comment than it does to speak one but this is the forum that I’m using and I’d like to know what you think.

Just to let you know Connie, I did try to locate you.  I looked up area code 830 and looked for exchanges that ended in the last two digits I got.  Then I did call the three that are used in your area.  One call wouldn’t connect to anything, one said the number isn’t in use, and one said the phone was either turned off or the battery was dead on the phone.  So those of you that are using cell phones to call someplace and you expect a call back, remember to speak the number ssslllooowwly, repeat it again just incase, and charge your phone up.  I hope that Connie calls me back, because I would love to have her stay at Naeset Roe Inn.

For those of you that are looking for a staycation, Naeset Roe Inn is a great place to get away for a few days, or just a day if you can only do that.  I’m known for a friendly, comfortable atmosphere, great food for breakfast, and I’m only an hour twenty minutes east of Milwaukee.  Chicago is only about 3 hours and I know people that make Minneapolis in 4 hours 30 minutes.
